Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, the prime minister, gave the order to expedite the formation of a higher committee to monitor the water agreement with Turkey, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining communication with them while moving forward with the development road project's implementation steps concurrently.
"Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani chaired the second meeting on the follow-up to agreements and memoranda with Turkey, which were concluded during the recent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq," read a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained.
The meeting "reviewed the procedures for implementing the agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded between the two sides, amounting to 24 memoranda," the statement continued.
In order to expedite implementation, the prime minister emphasized "the need to continue communicating with the Turkish side in proceeding with the implementation steps in parallel," giving each ministry involved in memorandums of understanding instructions to "develop a clear action plan under his direct supervision."
In order to achieve the necessary impact on Iraq's agricultural reality and water supply, the Prime Minister also gave the order to "accelerate the formation of the special committee for the implementation of the framework agreement for cooperation in the field of water between Iraq and Turkey, and to emphasize the preparation of water projects, which will be implemented jointly, and focus on strategic projects in the interest of Iraq in the long term."
In order to follow up on the implementation of cooperation measures in other crucial fields and sectors and to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, the meeting reviewed the protocols pertaining to the signed memorandums of understanding and the significance of forming joint committees between the concerned ministries.
